FAQs

Who are DynaRisk and why should we trust them to provide these tools?

DynaRisk is a cyber security and risk management company that has been providing simplified and accessible cyber security software tools since 2016, helping hundreds of thousands of consumers and hundreds of insurance and financial service organizations protect their computers and network environment.

As a trusted partner, E&O collaborated with DynaRisk to create the Cyber Guard program to offer our agents and brokerages protection tools against cyber attacks. Their industry-leading approach to cyber security involves:

  • Allowing agents or brokerages to assess their risks
  • Educating agents or brokerage employees and encouraging them to take action
  • Delivering monitoring and alerts on major security issues and monitoring for new vulnerabilities or leaked data records
  • Providing ongoing support in the form of cyber security experts available 24/7

Do I get Cyber Guard coverage automatically as a real estate licensee in BC?

You have to sign up, but it's free. All BC agents and brokerages are eligible for E&O’s Cyber Guard protection, at no cost. It takes about 5 – 10 minutes to sign up:

  • As an individual agent, you can start getting Cyber Guard’s protection through a product known as Cyber Xpert just by signing up.
  • As a brokerage, protection is provided through a product know as Breach Defence and managing brokers can sign up for Breach Defence.

Does Cyber Guard include cyber insurance?

No, Cyber Guard is a platform of loss prevention tools but not cyber insurance. It does not provide coverage for damages or loss caused by a cyber attack. The Real Estate Services Act that sets out E&O’s mandate and authority does not provide for the provision of cyber insurance by E&O. Brokerages interested in cyber insurance coverage should contact their insurance broker for more information or read “Risks and insurance for the real estate licensee” by Bill MacLeod and Rob McLeod.

How much does Cyber Guard cost me as an agent or brokerage?

There is no additional cost.

Why all of the focus on employee education and training for brokerages?

Training is essential to protection from cyber risks. Regardless of whether you’re a small or a large brokerage, your employees can be both your company's greatest asset as well as your largest exposure to cyber threats. By helping to provide both user education guides and simulated phishing campaigns, our platform empowers staff to improve their cyber safety and can help maintain protection for your brokerage even in high turnover positions.

If I think I’ve been hacked or fallen victim to a phishing or fraud attempt, what should I do?

Get expert help from our round the clock Cyber Helpline:

Phone: 1-855-701-9985
Email: REEOIC@dynarisk.com

The trained support staff there can help:

  • Account recovery – they’ll guide you through the recovery process if you’ve been locked out of your email, social media, or banking account.
  • Fraud and scams – if you notice unauthorized transactions or suspect fraud, they’ll help you report the issue and secure your accounts.
  • Hacked devices – did you or a fellow brokerage employee click on a suspicious link or accidentally download malware onto a device? They can assist with removing threats and strengthening security.
  • Online safety advice – Cyber Guard support team members can help teach how to recognize phishing scams, create strong passwords, and protect from cybercriminals.

Can larger brokerages use the Breach Defence product or is it only meant to apply to small- to medium-sized brokerages?

All brokerages, regardless of size, can take advantage of Breach Defence, but the product limits monitoring to 10 IP addresses and provides education and training modules for up to 25 staff members.

Router Security – Isn’t that handled by the internet provider?

Yes, generally speaking, the internet service provider (ISP) like Shaw, Rogers, or Telus sets up the router with default security settings. However, users sometimes change these settings without realizing the risks. For example, someone might enable remote access so they can manage their router while away from home — this opens up a potential entry point for cybercriminals. While this type of issue is relatively rare (DynaRisk sees it in about 2–3% of users), it's an important part of ensuring a network stays secure.

Will extra security interfere with social media visibility?

Security and visibility don’t have to be at odds. E&O’s Cyber Guard tools simply advise on best practices and let individuals choose what’s right for their situation. If someone uses social media for business and wants to remain easily discoverable, that’s perfectly fine — they can still maintain strong security by taking steps like:

  • Using unique, strong passwords for each account
  • Enabling two-factor authentication
  • Using a password manager
  • Monitoring for data breaches
  • Installing reputable antivirus protection

The key is balancing accessibility with protection — and these tools help guide users to make informed choices based on their needs.
